Putin watches Belgorod sub being launched (Part 2)

ST. PETERSBURG. April 23 (Interfax) - President Vladimir Putin has watched the Belgorod nuclear submarine being launched in Severodvinsk via video link from the Severnaya Verf shipyard in St. Petersburg, an Interfax correspondent reported from the ceremony.

The Belgorod sub was built by the Sevmash plant in Severodvinsk. It is expected to carry a new Russian weapon system: the Poseidon undersea attack drone.

The Severnaya Verf shipyard also laid the keels of two serial frigates of Project 22350, the Admiral Amelko and the Admiral Chichagov. The frigates designed by the Severnoye Design Bureau are intended for combat in a distant maritime zone.

Additionally, parts of the hull of the Merkury corvette of Project 20386 were interlocked. The corvette is a product of the Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau, and the Merkury is the project's lead ship. It is meant for combat and defending marine economic activity.

The Yantar Baltic plant in Kaliningrad in turn laid keels of two landing ships, the Vasily Trushin and the Vladimir Andreyev.
