Tripoli to be taken over soon - Haftar's deputy (Part 2)

MOSCOW. April 24 (Interfax) - The Libyan National Army is close to liberating Tripoli,

Hairi al-Tamimi, deputy of Libyan National Army Commander Khalifa Haftar, said.

"We have a small area in the western part of the country left; we're already close to liberating Tripoli from terrorists," al-Tamimi told reporters.

Libyan National Army Commander Khalifa Haftar is doing everything to make every citizen of Libya feel secure, he said.

"We immediately accepted the invitation from the Defense Ministry of the Russian Federation. Our task here is to give the right message of what the Libyan National Army is doing, which is fighting terrorism directly," al-Tamimi said.

There are currently two administrations in place in Libya: the parliament is located in the eastern part of the country, in the city of Tobruk, while the Government of National Accord led by Fayez al-Sarraj, which was formed with support from the UN and is recognized by the international community, is based in the west; in Tripoli.

The "eastern" administration of the country is independent of Tripoli and is supported by the Libyan National Army led by Haftar.

On April 4, Haftar announced the start of an offensive on Tripoli. Fighting is now ongoing in the city's suburbs.
