Enlargement of U.S. contingent in Poland to undermine NATO-Russia Founding Act - Lavrov

MOSCOW. April 30 (Interfax) - An enlargement of the U.S. contingent in Poland would undermine the NATO-Russia Founding Act, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at a press conference on Tuesday.

"It would undermine a key provision of the NATO-Russia Founding Act which bans significant forces from being deployed on territories of new NATO members on a permanent basis," Lavrov said.

He was commenting on a statement from Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blascak that an agreement to increase the U.S. contingent in Poland had been reached and that Warsaw was expecting a decision to this end in the nearest future.
