RVSN's Yoshkar-Ola Division being reequipped with Yars missile systems - military

MOSCOW. April 30 (Interfax) - The Yoshkar-Ola Division of the Russian Strategic Missile Forces (RVSN) has been rearmed with Yars missile systems, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Tuesday.

"In accordance with the Russian Defense Ministry's regulatory documents a regiment of the Yoshkar-Ola Missile Division is being reequipped with Yars mobile missile systems. Today, the entire missile regiment will be placed on combat duty. Reequipping the division thus will be fully completed," the Russian Defense Ministry information department said in a statement.

"The scheduled delivery of Yars missile launchers with intercontinental ballistic missiles has ensured a steady pace of rearming the RVSN in recent years," the Defense Ministry said.

Reequipping the Irkutsk and Barnaul RVSN Divisions with Yars mobile, ground-based missile systems is continuing, the military said.

RVSN is a branch of troops of the Russian Armed Forces and the main component of its strategic nuclear forces. RVSN is designed for the nuclear deterrence of a possible aggression.
