TBILISI. May 6 (Interfax) - The Agile Spirit 2019 multinational military exercise, which will involve more than 3,000 servicemen from 14 NATO member countries and partners, is due to take place in Georgia from July 27 to August 9, the Georgian Defense Ministry said.
The final details of the upcoming drills were fine-tuned at a planning conference, which closed in Tbilisi on Saturday, the ministry said.
It will be the ninth Agile Spirit exercise hosted by Georgia, the ministry said. This year, it will be held at three venues: Senaki in western Georgia, Vaziani near Tbilisi and the Orfolo training range in Akhaltsikhe in southern Georgia, it added.
"The objective of the exercise is to bolster the defense capabilities of the Defense Forces of Georgia, raise the level of compatibility with forces of NATO and the alliance's partners, create and promote opportunities for a multinational, regional and joint partnership, and also enhance security in the Black Sea region, the ministry said.
Georgia has been hosting the Agile Spirit exercises annually since 2011. They are planned jointly with the United States European Command.
Several countries will bring their military hardware to Georgia for the drills, the ministry said.
