Jeenbekov accepts resignation of Kyrgyz National Security Committee head

BISHKEK. May 15 (Interfax) - Kyrgyz President Sooronbai Jeenbekov has accepted the resignation of National Security Committee Chairman Idris Kadyrkulov, a representative of the presidential press service told Interfax on Wednesday.

"President Sooronbai Jeenbekov has signed an executive order to accept the resignation of National Security Committee Chairman Idris Kadyrkulov," the representative said.

The press service of the National Security Committee said in a statement earlier on Wednesday that Kadyrkulov had resigned to rule out pressure on the investigators probing abuse in the procurement of biometric passport forms by the State Registration Service.

Heads of several public entities related to the State Registration Service were detained in Kyrgyzstan in April on suspicion of abusing their office in the conclusion of the contract for the delivery of biometric passport forms.

The dismissed head of the State Registration Service, Alina Shaikova, said earlier that Kadyrkulov tried to pressure the agency's administration when it was choosing the supplier of passport forms.
