Rostov-on-Don sub holds torpedo drill en route to Sevastopol

MOSCOW. May 16 (Interfax) - The crew of the diesel electric submarine Rostov-on-Don held an exercise in destroying an enemy submarine, the Black Sea Fleet said on Thursday.

"Under a combat-training plan, the submarine departed her base at Novorossiysk and set off towards Sevastopol. During the crossing the crew held an exercise in searching, detecting and pursuing a mock enemy submarine, after which they practiced an attack involving simulation of torpedo launch," the fleet said in a statement obtained by Interfax.

"A special focus was on the sonic operators' actions and testing their skills in finding and identifying underwater and surface targets and the accuracy of providing guidance for target acquisition," the statement said.
