Launches of over 150 various missiles recorded over past 3 years thanks to MEWS space echelon - Putin

SOCHI. May 16 (Interfax) - Russia has been consistently developing the space echelon of its missile early warning system (MEWS), President Vladimir Putin said.

"The space echelon of the missile early warning system is consistently developing. Thanks to its operation, we have timely, as specified in standards, recorded launches of more than 150 ballistic missiles and rocket-carriers made both in Russia and abroad over the past three years," Putin said at a meeting dedicated to defense in Sochi.

The performance characteristics of the land remote sensing orbital group, satellite communications and navigation systems have improved over the past few years, Putin added.
