Number of launch pads optimized in Russia - Putin

SOCHI. May 17 (Interfax) - Russia has optimized the number of launch pads, President Vladimir Putin said.

"It is important to develop ground-based infrastructure used to launch military and dual-use spaceships, including at Plesetsk," Putin said at a defense meeting.

With the installation of modern Russian systems to facilitate launches of Soyuz-2 and Angara carrier rockets, "the number of types of rockets used has halved," he said.

"Such optimization has a tangible effect. I would add that now we have advanced earth-orbiting satellite launching vehicles created on the basis of domestically made components," Putin said.

This work has to be continued, Putin added.
