Russia to respond to latest U.S. sanctions imposed under Magnitsky Act - Russia embassy to U.S

WASHINGTON. May 17 (Interfax) - Russia will respond to the latest sanctions imposed by the United States under the Magnitsky Act, the Russian embassy to the U.S. said in a statement.

"These moves will be followed by reciprocal measures. We have always noted that this is not our choice, while responding in this manner. We strive to cooperate with the United States in the long-term. We are ready for this, and we believe this is the right option," the embassy said.

"More over these unconstructive decisions clearly run counter to a positive outlook of the recent Russia-U.S. talks in Sochi," it said.

The U.S. on Thursday placed sanctions on five Russian citizens and the Terek Special Rapid Response Team in Chechnya under the Magnitsky Act.

Chechen head Ramzan Kadyrov told Interfax on Thursday that the authors of the sanctions imposed on members of the Terek Special Rapid Response Team would be included in similar blacklists in Chechnya.
