MOSCOW. May 24 (Interfax) - Russian Presidential Human Rights Council Chairman Mikhail Fedotov said he will ask the members of the council, who are also the members of the Public Monitoring Commission (ONK), to visit U.S. citizen Paul Whelan, arrested on espionage charges, and verify the reports of violations of his rights.
"If such signals appear, we request that the members of the council, who are simultaneously the ONK members check, visit the man and find out what complains he has and if his rights are being violated," Fedotov told journalists, replying to an Interfax question on Friday.
"If his rights are violated, naturally, we will respond, drawing attention of our supervisory authorities," he said.
