Pacific Fleet's interceptors accompany Tu-95MS bombers on their flight

VLADIVOSTOK. May 27 (Interfax) - Marine aircraft of the Pacific Fleet have accompanied Tupolev Tu-95MS strategic bombers of the Russian Aerospace Forces on their flight, the fleet press service said in a statement on Monday.

"Interceptors of the Pacific Fleet accompanied Tupolev Tu-95MS strategic bombers of the Russian Aerospace Forces on their flight performed in the fleet's zone of responsibility on May 22," the statement said.

A duo of MiG-31 interceptors was scrambled from the Yelizovo airfield in Kamchatka to escort and to ensure safety of the Tu-95MS bombers.

"The interceptors met the strategic bombers at the rendezvous point, made visual and radio contact with the Tu-95MS crews, and accompanied the aircraft throughout their flight in the fleet's zone of responsibility," the statement said.

For the purpose of security, the leading MiG-31 provided radar surveillance on the bombers' route.

As reported earlier, Tu-95MS strategic bombers of the Russian Aerospace Forces performed scheduled flights over neutral waters of the Chukchi, Bering, and Okhotsk seas, along the western coast of Alaska and the northern coast of the Aleutian Islands, and above the Pacific.

The flight strictly complied with the international airspace regulations.
