UAV battalion formed at Russia's 201st military base in Tajikistan

YEKATERINBURG. June 3 (Interfax) - A new battalion of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) has been set up at Russia's 201st military base stationed in Tajikistan, the press service of Russia's Central Military District said.

The battalion operates Orlan-10 advanced multi-purpose UAVs, which have helped boost the combat capabilities of motorized rifle and artillery units in Tajikistan.

"They help conduct aerial reconnaissance, detect targets and adjust artillery fire in real-time mode at a maximum distance of up to 120 kilometers," the press service said.

Orlan-10 crews will begin their training as soon as the next combat training period starts on June 3.

The Orlan-10 UAV is designed for a variety of missions, including observation in difficult-to-reach areas in any weather conditions. One such drone weighs some ten kilograms. The Orlan-10 system can stay in mid-air for more than 15 hours. It can run simultaneously four UAVs and organize a local network of up to 30 operators to handle payloads on simultaneously launched UAVs.
