MOSCOW. June 3 (Interfax) - Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has denied allegations that the United States and Israel are planning to offer Moscow recognition of the legitimacy of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and the lifting of sanctions in exchange for Russia's assistance in restricting Iran's influence on Syria.
Journalists asked Peskov whether the media reports citing Western diplomatic sources should be trusted. His answer was negative.
"I'd rather not jump the gun; I'm not going to do that, and I will urge everyone to be very careful and to filter media leaks and fake news, plenty of which are likely to be channeled into the information space," Peskov said.
According to reports in the media, the proposal of the United States and Israel will be discussed at a tripartite meeting between Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev, U.S. National Security Advisor John Bolton, and Israeli National Security Advisor Meir Ben-Shabbat in Jerusalem in late June.
