Georgian govt to facilitate NATO ships' access to Georgian ports

TBILISI. June 4 (Interfax) - The Georgian government is planning to facilitate the issuance of diplomatic permits to enter the ports of the country for NATO ships.

Georgian media said on Monday that it is mentioned in the first annual report on the implementation of the government's program for 2018-2020 presented by Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze to the parliament.

According to the press, the report refers to a bill drafted by the government on the facilitation of diplomatic permit for the entry to the territorial waters and ports of Georgia for NATO's standing maritime groups and ships in NATO's operative command.

The aforementioned bill is currently being approved by the ministries, media said.

The press cited the prime minister's report as saying that the government of Georgia actively cooperates with NATO in order to ensure the Black Sea region's security.

The intensity of NATO vessels' visiting the territorial waters of Georgia has recently increased, the Georgian prime minister said.

The bill also mentions that in accordance with a tactical memorandum formalized with the NATO Maritime Command (MARCOM) in 2017, the Georgian side shares information with the NATO Shipping Center every week. No exchange of classified information takes place at a current stage.

According to the media, the report was presented to the parliament in a written form at this stage. The prime minister is to present his report in person at the parliament before the end of the month.
