Over 30 ICBMs to be commissioned this year - Russian Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. June 5 (Interfax) - The Russian Strategic Missile Forces will procure over 30 intercontinental ballistic missiles this year, the Russian Defense Ministry's information directorate said in a statement on Wednesday.

"There are plans to commission over 30 intercontinental ballistic missiles by the end of the 2019 training year, which will increase the share of modern weapons to 76% and expand the Strategic Missile Force's nuclear deterrence capacity," the statement said.

In all, the Strategic Missile Forces will get more than 90 pieces of modern weapons, and military and special hardware, the statement said.

As a result, fully staffed Yars road-mobile missile regiments of the Yoshkar-Ola, Irkutsk, and Barnaul missile divisions, two stationary launchers of the Kozelsk missile division, and an Avangard missile regiment of the missile division stationed near Orenburg will be put on combat duty, it said.

The work on the new missile complex Sarmat is ongoing, the statement said.

"In addition to bolstering the attack component, the Strategic Missile Forces are increasing their combat potential with the maintenance of existent command posts and the opening of new ones and the equipment of these posts with modern combat control and communication systems," it said.
