Most Ukrainians favor diplomacy for settling Donbas conflict - poll

KYIV. June 5 (Interfax) - Over 60% of Ukrainians polled at the end of May and in early June favor diplomatic efforts in settling the conflict in Donbas, the Sociological Group Rating said on Wednesday after conducting a public opinion poll of 2,000 respondents aged 18 and older from May 29 to June 3, 2019.

In particular, 38% would like the military actions to be stopped and the conflict frozen, and 22% said the territories not controlled by Kyiv in Donbas should be granted autonomous or federal status within Ukraine.

Only 5% of the respondents prefer the absolute separation of the territories not controlled by Kyiv.

On the other hand, 18% support the continuation of military actions until Ukraine regains full control of Donbas.

As many as 65% of the respondents consider Russia an aggressor and 27% hold the opposite view, the poll found.
