Russia, China, opposed to U.S.' unilateral sanctions on Iran - joint statement

MOSCOW. June 5 (Interfax) - Russia and China are opposed to the United States' unilateral sanctions on Iran and call on Tehran to refrain from steps aimed at terminating the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear program, Russia and China said in a joint statement following negotiations between their leaders, Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping.

The parties underscored the JCPOA's importance and reaffirmed their commitment to consistent and unconditional implementation of these agreements.

"The parties note with satisfaction that the IAEA [International Atomic Energy Agency] reports have confirmed the Iranian side's strict adherence to its obligations under the JCPOA, and declare that they do not accept the U.S.' unilateral sanctions on the Islamic Republic of Iran," the document posted on the Russian-language version of the Kremlin website says.

Moscow and Beijing "call on Iran to refrain from further steps toward terminating the observance of its obligations under the JCPOA, and the other JCPOA signatories to adhere to their obligations," the document says.
