ST. PETERSBURG. June 6 (Interfax) - There will be no limitations left in the field of strategic weapons after 2021, but no one is discussing this perspective with Russia, President Vladimir Putin told heads of news agencies at a meeting on Thursday.
"Everything ends in 2021. There will be no instruments left to curb the arms race," Putin said.
"Extension of the New START is on the agenda. We don't have to extend it. The latest systems we have can guarantee Russia's security for quite a long period of time," Putin said.
"I'll say unequivocally that we've surpassed our rivals in terms of hypersonic weapons," he said.
"So, if no one wants to extend the New START, well, we won't be doing it. We've said a hundred times that we are prepared [for talks], but no one is negotiating with us. There is no formal negotiating process," Putin said.
