DUSHANBE. June 6 (Interfax) - Iranian President Hassan Rouhani will attend a summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Dushanbe on June 14-15, the Tajik Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
"President of Iran Hassan Rouhani will attend the 5th summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia, due to take place in Dushanbe on June 15, at the invitation of the president of Tajikistan. The heads of the two states will discuss key issues of bilateral cooperation during the summit," the statement said.
Such an agreement is contained in a memorandum of mutual understanding between Tajikistan and Iran that was signed during Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin's recent visit to Tehran.
The reception of Muhiddin Kabiri, the leader of the Islamic Renaissance Party, banned in Tajikistan, at the highest level in Tehran put a strain on relations between the two countries in the fall of 2015. The Islamic Renaissance Party was designated as a terrorist organization and outlawed after the Tajik authorities accused it of being involved in a mutiny organized by the former Tajik Defense Minister Abduhalim Nazarzoda in September 2015.
The memorandum of mutual understanding, which was signed by the Tajik and Iranian foreign ministers in Tehran last week, says that the "sides will not permit the activities of parties and organizations designated as terrorist and extremist and will refrain from supporting them in any way."
According to the document; "In this context, the Iranian side stressed that it will not allow any activities [...] of the Islamic Renaissance Party in its territory."
