ST. PETERSBURG. June 6 (Interfax) - The Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), the Middle Eastern investors and GK Launch Services will invest $87 million in a project to upgrade the Baikonur cosmodrome infrastructure, RDIF's General Director Kirill Dmitriyev said at a meeting between President Vladimir Putin and members of the RDIF International Expert Council on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on Thursday.
Relevant documentation was signed at the forum earlier on Thursday.
The project involves upgrading the Launch Pad N1 (Gagarin's Start) and its further use for Soyuz-2 rocket launches.
An upgraded Baikonur will be able to increase its number of launches and attract more customers for such services in the future, Dmitriyev said.
