BISHKEK. June 14 (Interfax) - As the chair country of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Russia will be insisting on the fulfillment of obligations by the participants in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), President Vladimir Putin said at the SCO summit in Bishkek on Friday.
"We are concerned about the events surrounding the Iranian nuclear program. The United States' withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, which, by the way, was unanimously approved by the UN Security Council in 2015, not just destabilizes the regional situation but also might undermine the nuclear non-proliferation regime," Putin said.
Russia will be presiding in the SCO in 2019-2020 as the successor of current chair country Kyrgyzstan.
"As the SCO chair country, we intend to ensure the fulfillment of obligations by the participants in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action," Putin said.
Russia believes that this is the only logical and correct path, he said.
