ISIL supporter trying to buy weapons detained in Russia's Trans-Baikal Territory

CHITA. June 14 (Interfax) - Officers of the Russian Federal Security Service's (FSB) branch for the Trans-Baikal Territory have detained a supporter of the Islamic State (ISIL) terrorist organization (banned in Russia) who came to Chita from another Russian region to illegally procure weapons, the press service of the FSB's local branch said on Friday.

"The unlawful activities of a 23-year-old citizen of Russia have been dismantled. It has been established that he actively advertised the ideas of terrorism among his acquaintances and on the Internet and also studied the practice of staging acts of sabotage and terrorist acts. Simultaneously, he was looking for opportunities to buy firearms and ammunition," the press service said.

The young man also planned to go to Syria to join ISIL and take part in terrorist activities.

According to the press service, the suspect has been detained and all circumstances of his unlawful activities and his crime affiliations are being established.
