MOSCOW. June 14 (Interfax) - The Sukhoi Superjet 100 which crash-landed in Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport approached the runway at an excessive speed, the Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC) said in its preliminary investigative report on Friday.
"After the alarm sounded, the captain gave a boost to the engines, accelerating the air speed to 164 knots (304 kilometers per hour) by the moment the plane flew over the tip of the runway at an altitude of 40 feet (12 meters) and 170 knots (315 kilometers per hour) when the plane was flying at 16 feet (5 meters)," the report said.
However, landing conditions required a speed of 155 knots (287 kilometers per hour).
"This speed was set by the crew as objective. The airline's flight regulations prescribed a speed of plus 20 knots as a criterion of stable approach for landing," it said.
