Xi Jinping speaks for Mongolia's accession to SCO

BISHKEK. June 14 (Interfax) - Mongolia can receive more benefits from cooperation with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) if it joins this organization, Chinese President Xi Jinping said during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Mongolian President Khaltmaagiin Battulga on the sidelines of the SCO summit in Bishkek on Friday.

"If Mongolia becomes a member of the Organization, it will manifest its advantages to the maximum, it will receive more benefits. The sooner a decision on Mongolia's membership in the SCO is made, the more opportunities for cooperation the country will get for its national development," the Chinese leader said.

Speaking about cooperation between the three countries in general, Xi Jinping called for deepening political confidence, respect of each other's key interests and "the establishment of a model of mutually profitable equal cooperation."

The Chinese president suggested promoting three-party cooperation by key joint projects. One of such projects is the program to create a Russia-Mongolia-China economic corridor, he said.

"In the first place, we should implement the projects in this program on which we have consensus and which have a solid foundation," Xi Jinping said.

In particular, the modernization of the central railway line will become a priority project for the three countries, he said.

The Chinese leader said he hopes that the parties will gradually make a feasibility study for its prompt implementation. China also supports the creation of favorable conditions for customs clearance of goods on the borders between the countries and for increasing the capacity of customs points, he said.

Xi Jinping also said regional cooperation is also an important track. "We have a good foundation for such cooperation and we can continue it, encourage contacts on the interregional level between the local administrations," he said.

The Chinese leader also supported his colleagues' proposals on projects in the sphere of electrical power, and also projects to create oil and gas pipelines between the three countries. "I suggest studying this issue from a technical and economically substantiated viewpoint," Xi Jinping said.
