MOSCOW. June 17 (Interfax) - If the United States indeed intends to intensify cyberattacks against Russia, this crime should be condemned by the international community, head of the Russian Federation Council's Foreign Affairs Committee Konstantin Kosachyov said.
"Such U.S. plans, if they are confirmed, are a crime against international law and they should be strongly condemned by the global community," Kosachyov wrote on Facebook.
The New York Times earlier reported, citing unnamed current and former U.S. administration officials, that the U.S. had intensified attempts to insert malware in Russia's electric power grid.
In the meantime, U.S. President Donald Trump wrote on Twitter that the New York Times story about the U.S. increasing cyberattacks on Russia was untrue.
"This is a virtual act of Treason by a once great paper so desperate for a story, any story, even if bad for our Country," Trump said.
"The fray between Trump and the press is developing into something more serious; namely, confirmation that the U.S. is preparing destructive cyberattacks against other states at state level," Kosachyov said.
"And this is the same U.S. that is accusing Russia, China, Iran, Cuba, and North Korea (add others from the list of U.S. opponents and you will not be wrong) of hacking computer systems," he said.
