Int'l peacekeeping exercise begins in Kazakhstan

NUR-SULTAN. June 17 (Interfax) - The international peacekeeping exercise Steppe Eagle 2019 has begun in the Almaty region in southeastern Kazakhstan, the country's defense ministry stated.

The opening ceremony was held at the Illiysky training center and involved service personnel from Britain, India, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkey, the statement said.

The organizing committee tasked the participants with proper holding the peacekeeping exercise as planned, in particular, patrolling checkpoints and accompanying and convoying humanitarian cargoes, patrolling on site and in populated areas.

The exercise will end on June 22.

Steppe Eagle Exercise has been held annually since 2003 in the presence of foreign military observers and military attaches accredited in Kazakhstan.
