Terrorists stop sending fighters to Syria, Iraq - Russian Security Council

UFA. June 19 (Interfax) - Terrorists have stopped recruiting fighters for hostilities in Syria and Iraq, according to Russian Security Council Deputy Secretary Yury Kokov.

"ISIL [banned in Russia] used to send its followers to Iraq and Syria, but now they are urged to stay and carry on jihad in home countries," Kokov said at an international conference in Ufa on Wednesday.

The number of sleeper cells is growing across the world, and that's a threat, he said.

"Such threats also exist in Europe, which has seen a number of terror attacks in the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, and France this year. This proves seriousness of the intention of international terrorist organizations' leaders to perpetrate terror attacks in Europe," Kokov said.
