U.S. helped defeat terrorists in Syria - Russian Security Council

UFA. June 19 (Interfax) - The U.S.-led coalition has helped defeat terrorists in Syria, but it is too early to declare a victory over terrorism worldwide, Russian Security Council Deputy Secretary Yury Kokov said at an international conference in Ufa on Wednesday.

"The threat of appearance of a terrorist quasi-state has been neutralized, and international terrorist forces have been defeated in Syria and Iraq as a result of antiterrorism operations of Russia, its allies and partners in the Middle East, and efforts of the U.S.-led coalition," Kokov said.

"Yet it is premature to declare a victory over terrorism [worldwide]. Hundreds of terrorist groups are operating across the planet. The most active of them are ISIL, ash-Shabaab al-Mujahideen, Boko Haram, and al-Qaeda (all of them banned in Russia)," Kokov said.

These groups perpetrate most terror attacks in the world, he said.
