UFA. June 19 (Interfax) - The situation surrounding the Korean Peninsula may escalate in 2020, Russian Deputy Security Council Secretary Alexander Venediktov said.
"[North Korean leader] Kim Jong Un said in April the United States had until the end of this year to change their approach to negotiations. There is no doubt that if the Department of State fails to convince Pyongyang that its intentions to improve relations with the North Koreans are serious, the situation surrounding the Korean Peninsula will become aggravated in 2020," Venediktov told reporters at a conference in Ufa on Wednesday.
