Military officials of CSTO states mull preparations for Combat Brotherhood 2019 exercises

MOSCOW. June 19 (Interfax) - Minsk has hosted the second headquarters talks on preparations for Poisk 2019 exercise held in the framework of Combat Brotherhood 2019 strategic exercise, press secretary of the United Staff of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Vladislav Shchegrikovich said.

"The second headquarters talks on issues of preparing and conducting Poisk 2019 special exercise involving forces and intelligence means of CSTO member states conducted in the framework of the Combat Brotherhood 2019 exercises were held in the Belarusian capital on June 17-19 in line with the plan of joint operations of control bodies, formations and means of the CSTO collective security system for 2019," Shchegrikovich said.

The talks involved the delegations of Defense Ministries of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan and representatives of the CSTO Joint Staff, he said.

"The talks in Minsk handled and approved the idea of the exercise and the procedure of conducting it, the composition of the command, the joint control body, the forces and intelligence means of CSTO member states and also issues of all-round supplies of the exercise," he said.

Participants in the talks conducted a preliminary reconnaissance of the areas of the upcoming exercise and discussed the procedure of conducting practical operations of contingents, the equipment of field control posts, storage sites of ammunition, armaments, military and special vehicles.

The Poisk 2019 exercise will drill preparing and conducting reconnaissance by forces and means of intelligence bodies of CSTO member-states with the purpose of containing an armed border conflict in East Europe.

In 2018 a similar event was conducted in Central Asia. Its final stage was attended by the heads of military intelligence services of all six CSTO states. Practical action was supported by air-dropping, combat firing and the combat application of aviation, ordnance, air defense installations and other military and special equipment.
