Suspected spy Whelan asks Trump for public support

MOSCOW. June 20 (Interfax) - Paul Whelan, a citizen of the United States, Ireland, Canada, and the UK accused by Russia of spying, has called on the leaders of these countries to publicly support him, an Interfax correspondent reported.

"I am asking the leaders and authorities in Ottawa, Dublin, London, and Washington for assistance through public statements and support. Mr. President, we can't keep America great until we start aggressively protecting our citizens regardless of where they may be," Whelan said in the Moscow City Court on Thursday.

Whelan additionally said that he asks U.S. President Donald Trump to publicly express his position on his situation on Twitter.
