New U.S. sanctions against Iran are sign of very bad scenario - Lavrov

MOSCOW. June 25 (Interfax) - The new U.S. sanctions against Iran resembles the events of 2003 when Washington imposed restrictions on the Saddam Hussein regime in Iraq, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told the press on Tuesday.

"We are concerned about these events. Another imposition of highly personified sanctions on high-ranking Iranian officials by the Trump administration is disquieting and indicates a very bad scenario," Lavrov said.

Lavrov said the current situation reminded him of 2003, "when Colin Powell presented the notorious test tube, and the United States kept imposing sanctions on Saddam Hussein and Iraq as a whole." "We remember the outcome," he added.
