U.S. is trying to present itself as 'victim' of cyberattacks from Russia without any evidence - expert

MOSCOW. June 27 (Interfax) - The United States is trying to present itself as a "victim" of cyberattacks, calling Russia their source for geopolitical purposes, said Nikolai Murashov, deputy director of the National Coordination Center for Computer Incidents, which was created on the orders of the Russian Federal Security Service administration.

"To distract attention from its activities, Washington is trying to convince everyone that the U.S. is a little short of the only victim of computer attacks. And they are calling Russia the main source of threats in the information without any grounds and evidence to secure their geopolitical interests," Murashov told a briefing on Thursday.

The U.S. policies on this issue "do not even include dialogue between the parties involved," he said.

The U.S. is following the so-called U.S. "find and condemn" policy, the purpose of which is to attribute actions in the information space to a specific state and put responsibility on it, Murashov said.

"In our opinion, it's not in line with the goal of maintaining international stability by resolving disputes peacefully. Russia is firmly committed to the principles of the UN and is ready to discuss claims based on facts, and also cooperative in the investigation into computer incidents. That's the signal that Russia sent to our partners [the U.S.]," Murashov said.
