Info on fire-stricken submersible not to be published due to secrecy - Peskov

MOSCOW. July 3 (Interfax) - The type of submersible where a fire broke out and 14 submariners died on July 1 will not be revealed to the public as the information is classified, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told the press on Wednesday.

"Naturally, this information cannot be completely revealed to the public. It belongs to the highest level of classified data, so it is absolutely normal for it not to be disclosed," Peskov said when asked to specify which particular submersible had been affected.

There was a follow-up question of whether the information might be posted in the future. "Of course, not," he said.

Peskov confirmed that President Vladimir Putin was aware of exactly which submersible had caught fire.
