Russian military rescue tug heading to Iranian shores across Persian Gulf

MOSCOW. July 3 (Interfax) - A Black Sea Fleet rescue tug is crossing the Persian Gulf, the Fleet's spokesperson Alexei Rulev said.

"The rescue tug Professor Nikolai Muru, from the group of rescue tugs at the fleet's Novorossiysk naval base, is making passage from Novorossiysk to the Persian Gulf. This is the first time in the fleet's modern history that a support vessel of this project is making a voyage of that length," Rulev said.

The tug is heading to the Gulf to support the Navy's national team for the Depth 2019 international diving competition in Iran in early August, the spokesman said.

"At present, the crew of the vessel is crossing the Black Sea and preparing to pass through the Bosporus and the Dardannelles," Rulev said.

The over 20-day voyage will involve crossing the Suez Canal, three straits, four gulfs, and six seas.
