FSB colonel accused of fraud and bribery to remain in custody - military court

MOSCOW. July 4 (Interfax) - The Moscow district military court has upheld the extended arrest of head of the 2nd division of the Federal Security Service (FSB) Economic Crime Department (Department K) Col. Kirill Cherkalin, who has been charged with taking a massive bribe and fraud, an Interfax correspondent reported.

"The June 20 ruling by the 235th garrison military court, which extended the custody period for Cherkalin until August 24, 2019, is to remain without change and the appeal without satisfaction," the upper military court ruled on Thursday, thus rejecting the defense lawyer Vladimir Mikhailov's request for a non-incarceration alternative, including house arrest.
