Kazakhstan suggests meeting on Afghanistan be held on sidelines of Nur-Sultan visit of envoys to OSCE - Foreign Ministry

NUR-SULTAN. July 9 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan has proposed that a special meeting on Afghanistan be held in Nur-Sultan in fall, on the sidelines of a visit of permanent representatives of OSCE member states.

Kazakh Foreign Minister Beibut Atamkulov made the proposal at a meeting with OSCE Chairperson-in-Office and Slovak Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajcak during the OSCE informal ministerial gathering in the High Tatars, the Kazakh Foreign Ministry's press service said in a statement on Tuesday.

Atamkulov and Lajcak discussed the situation in Afghanistan, "which plays a special role in ensuring lasting stability and security on the OSCE space," the ministry said.

"In this context, Kazakhstan proposed that a special meeting on Afghanistan be held in Nur-Sultan this fall on the sidelines of the visit of permanent representatives of OSCE member states to Kazakhstan," it said.

"This OSCE event will enhance the organization's involvement in the settlement process and post-conflict rehabilitation of Afghanistan," the ministry said.
