NEW YORK. July 19 (Interfax) - The United Nations Security Council on Friday voted unanimously for a resolution on links between international terrorism and organized crime, an Interfax correspondent reported.
The document was proposed by Peru.
"We note with satisfaction that the proposed resolution focuses on really pressing matters such as the upkeep of terrorists with arms, drug and people trafficking," Russia's ambassador to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, told the SC after the vote.
Starting from today, all nations "must introduce criminal liability for illicit circulation of explosives, military and dual-purpose products, and legislate a ban on the production of unbranded or misbranded light and small arms," Nebenzya said.
The resolution also contains instructions to strengthen border cooperation aimed at countering arms trafficking, he said.
