Russia to fly Open Skies mission over Canada; Canada, Hungary, U.S. over Russia

MOSCOW. July 22 (Interfax) - Russian military observers will fly an inspection mission over Canada on July 22-28 under the Treaty on Open Skies, while specialists from Canada, Hungary and the United States will fly a similar mission over Russia on July 22-26, the Krasnaya Zvezda newspaper of the Russian Defense Ministry reported on Monday.

"The Russian group of inspectors is expected to conduct an observation flight aboard Russia's Tupolev Tu-154M LK-1 over the territory of Canada. It will be conducted from the Iqaluit airfield from July 22 to July 28. The maximum flight distance will be up to 6,150 kilometers," the newspaper said.

Russian National Nuclear Risk Reduction Center chief Sergei Ryzhkov told the Krasnaya Zvezda that Canadian specialists aboard the aircraft will control the compliance with the flight parameters and the use of equipment provided by the treaty during the flight along the planned route.

A joint observation mission of Canada, Hungary and the U.S. will fly over the Russian territory on July 22-26, the newspaper said. The mission will fly aboard the Antonov An-26 aircraft from the Kubinka airfield, it said.

Moreover, military experts from Finland will inspect the Ninth Artillery Brigade of Russia's Western Military District stationed in Luga on July 23-25 as part of the 2011 Vienna Document on Confidence- and Security-Building Measures, it said.
