Russian, Turkish FMs discuss Idlib

MOSCOW. July 22 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov discussed joint steps in implementing the agreement on the settlement of the situation in Idlib in a phone call with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu on Monday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on its website.

"The parties exchanged views on the situation in the Idlib de-escalation area. The importance was emphasized of coordinating efforts to counter terrorism in order to comprehensively implement the Memorandum on stabilization of the situation in the Idlib de-escalation area signed following talks between the Russian and Turkish presidents in Sochi on September 17, 2018," the statement said.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the ministers additionally "discussed the current state of the process of the political settlement of the conflict in the Syrian Arab Republic in line with the provisions of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2254."

"The parties reiterated their mutual interest in the prompt conclusion of forming and the start of work of the Constitutional Committee," it said.

The conversation took place at the Turkish side's initiative, the statement said.
