VLADIVOSTOK. Aug 5 (Interfax) - An anti-terrorist exercise involving over 1,000 troops has begun in the Sakhalin region, the eastern Military District said on Monday.
"Two Eastern Military District units have begun an exercise in countering illegal armed groups in the eastern Sakhalin region. It involves over a thousand of troops, around 300 pieces of hardware, including Mi-8 AMTSh army helicopters," the statement said.
During the exercise, a helicopter assault group will land onto a training range to hone their air assault skills in complicated weather conditions.
"In addition, troops from a joint-force grouping will search for and block mock enemy's subversive scout groups in the insular zone of the Eastern Military District. This is a planned exercise, which will last until the end of the current week," the statement said.
