Military cancels test range events which prompted recommendation for Nyonoksa village residents to leave (Part 2)

ARKHANGELSK. Aug 13 (Interfax) - The planned military events in the village of Nyonoksa, which were to involve its evacuation on Wednesday, have been cancelled, the Nyonoksa area administration told Interfax.

"Yes, we do have information that the military cancelled tomorrow's events due to which residents would have had to leave," a spokesman for the Nyonoksa area division in the Severodvinsk administration said.

Earlier on Tuesday it was reported that Nyonoksa residents had been advised to leave the village on Wednesday due to several hours' work to be carried out at a military site.

Reports of the evacuation were earlier dismissed by the region's governor Igor Orlov, "This is total nonsense, there is no evacuation," Orlov told Interfax on Tuesday.

Nyonoksa is a village 40 kilometers from Severodvinsk. It is the location of a military test range where on August 8 an explosion occurred during testing of a missile which contained a radioisotope power source.
