MOSCOW. Aug 23 (Interfax) - Deploying Russian missile systems in Venezuela would be an effective response from Russia to the United States' latest missile tests, which would have been banned by the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty, First Deputy Chairman of the Russian State Duma's Defense Committee Alexander Sherin told Interfax on Friday.
"One of the options is to simply discuss it [possible placement of Russian missile systems] with the leadership of Venezuela. Of course, it's tough. Maybe, there will even be a Cuban Missile Crisis-like situation, but it was the Cuban Missile Crisis that cooled the Americans' heads for a long time," Sherin said.
"If such a system is placed in Venezuela, they [the U.S.] will have to be more careful," he said.
