MOSCOW. Aug 23 (Interfax) - U.S. citizen Paul Whelan charged with espionage in Russia said after the court ruling on the extension of his arrest that he is innocent and his isolation is aimed at forcing him to make a confession.
"An ill wind continues to blow from the East. I am innocent of any charge resulting from this political kidnapping. No crime ever occurred, there is no evidence of a crime," Whelan said in court.
"My isolation continues in order to force a confession, medical care for injuries inflicted by the FSB in prison has been refused, my human rights have been violated," he said.
