MOSCOW. Aug 23 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed the situation in Syria's Idlib province in a recent phone call, the Russian presidential press service said on Friday.
"The sides discussed Russian-Turkish interaction in the context of steps to stabilize the situation in the Idlib de-escalation area. They agreed to intensify joint efforts to eliminate the terrorist threat coming from this district and ensure the implementation of the September 17, 2018 Sochi memorandum," it said.
"In light of the 5th summit of the Astana process guarantor states scheduled for September, the sides also discussed other aspects of the Syrian settlement process, including the work being conducted by Russia, Turkey and Iran together with the UN to form and launch the [Syrian] constitutional committee," the press service said.
"The leaders also discussed the Middle East agenda and steps to further develop bilateral cooperation" and agreed to continue personal contacts, it said.
The telephone conversation took place on Turkey's initiative, the press service said.
