Lavrov, Angolan FM to discuss African agenda, commercial and economic cooperation

MOSCOW. Aug 24 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will hold talks with his Angolan counterpart Manuel Domingos Augusto on Monday, August 26, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Saturday.

Augusto will pay a working visit to Russia on August 25-27, the ministry said.

"The ministers will have an in-depth exchange of views on the items of mutual concern on the global and regional agenda, including the settlement of the crises in the 'hotspots' of the African continent - Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Central African Republic, South Sudan, Somalia," the ministry said in a statement posted on its website.

According to the statement, Russia and Angola maintain a constructive political dialogue. "It is based on a similar understanding of the global processes, the closeness of our countries' approaches to the issues dealing with the forming of a fair world order, the rule of international law, and the commitment to the principle of non-interference with the internal affairs of the sovereign countries," it said.

In light of the objective of intensifying business partnership between the Russian and Angolan business communities, a special emphasis at talks will be placed on the further promotion of bilateral commercial and economic and investment cooperation in the industry, the mineral extraction, and interbank cooperation and the expansion of business contacts between regions of two countries, the commentary said.

In particular, the heads of the foreign ministries will discuss the preparations for and hosting of the Russia-Africa summit and economic forum in Sochi in October.
