Ukraine would welcome U.S.' joining Normandy format of talks on Donbas - Zelensky at meeting with Bolton (Part 2)

KYIV. Aug 28 (Interfax) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with United States National Security Advisor John Bolton in Kyiv on Wednesday to discuss primary measures to strengthen strategic partnership between the two countries; in particular, preparations for bilateral negotiations at top level, the Ukrainian presidential press service said in a statement.

"The president of Ukraine said he hopes that the U.S. can be more involved in the negotiating process on Donbas. He said Ukraine would welcome it if the United States joined the Normandy format," the statement said.

Zelensky and Bolton additionally discussed opportunities for deeper Ukrainian-American cooperation on security and defense aspects, energy security, and on reforming the Ukrainian Armed Forces and defense industry, it said.

Zelensky highlighted the importance of a consolidated position of the U.S. and other partners of Ukraine to secure the release of Ukrainian sailors and other captives, the statement said.
