MOSCOW. Aug 28 (Interfax) - The United States has not yet informed Russia of being close to concluding an agreement with the Taliban (a terrorist organization banned in Russia), Russian presidential envoy for Afghanistan and Director of the Russian Foreign Ministry's Second Asian Department Zamir Kabulov said on Wednesday.
"Such information has reached us as well, but these are so far mere reports that haven't yet been a hundred percent confirmed officially by the Taliban and the Americans themselves," Kabulov told Interfax.
"I believe this is just analysis rather than a fact that they are truly close to this and that a date for signing an American-Taliban agreement could be determined within the next few days," he said.
The U.S. "has not yet provided any information about the course of the negotiations as such, as the process is ongoing," he said.
"And [U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay] Khalilzad, who is in touch with me, told me from Doha that he is still there and, as far as I understand, he wants also to travel to Kabul to inform the Kabul leadership, after which we will be talking about next steps," Kabulov said.
"Therefore, I am so far unaware of the full contents of the document that has been supposedly agreed upon," he said.
