Russia's FSB: terror acts prevented in Kabardino-Balkaria, suspect detained

MOSCOW. Aug 29 (Interfax) - A man has been detained on suspicion of plotting terrorist acts against government agencies in Russia's internal republic of Kabardino-Balkaria, the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) said.

"Investigators found a cache with two ready-to-use powerful improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in a forest near the populated localities of Chyornaya Rechka and Altud in the Urvan district in the Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria," the FSB press center told Interfax on Thursday.

A local resident, who was earlier tried on terrorism-related charges, has been identified by the FSB in cooperation with the region's police as a suspect involved in making the IEDs and setting up the cache, it said.

"Measures were taken to detain him in the populated locality of Nartkala. He has already admitted to plotting acts of sabotage and terrorist acts targeting the facilities of law enforcement and government agencies," the press center said.

The explosive devices seized from the cache were disposed of, it said.

A criminal investigation has been opened on terrorism charges. The suspect's restraining measure is pending.
